History and Mission of the Gallery

Artetude Gallery was founded in June 2012 by two physician-scientists who share a love for contemporary art, an understanding of its intrinsic power to heal, and a deep respect for the critical symbiosis between artist and art collector.  By showcasing compelling, cutting edge contemporary sculpture, painting and photography from nationally and internationally recognized artists, Artetude Gallery focuses on three objectives: to effectively represent and advance the careers of our talented artists, to build long-term relationships that create new contemporary art collectors and exceed the needs and expectations of established collectors and to contribute to the physical and cultural health of our community by committing a portion of each sale of art through our Art on a Mission program to the Mission Hospital Foundation and SECU Cancer Center.  Our goal is to help our contemporary art collectors realize their personal and unique visions in building art collections of substance and meaning in both their home and office settings.

Margaret “Kenny” Offermann, MD, PhD and Russell M Medford, MD, PhD are a husband and wife team who are co-owners of Artetude Gallery. They are also co-founders and managing partners of Salutramed Group, Inc (www.salutramed.com), an Atlanta and Boston based consulting firm that provides guidance to senior life science, foundation and institutional executives and Boards of Directors to address critical issues of corporate and institutional strategy. They came to Asheville when Dr. Offermann was recruited to serve as founding medical director of the Mission Healthcare SECU Cancer Center.   

Management and Staff

Amy Medford, Gallery Director brings her artistic expertise to Artetude.  A resident artist since the gallery's inception, Amy has now taken on the role of director.  Amy ran a successful sculpture garden in New Jersey as well as founding Avant-Garde studios which she ran with her husband Leonid Siveriver.

Amy Medford was born and raised in New Jersey, received her A.B. from Cornell University, and went on to earn an apprenticeship at the Johnson Atelier where she mastered the “lost wax” technique of bronze casting.

Amy later traveled to Italy to study stone carving and further her practice of bronze and clay work in the small town of Pietrasanta, a Tuscan city made famous by Michelangelo’s affinity for the local stone.  

Dr. Margaret "Kenny" Offermann, President of Artetude Gallery, Inc.,  received a BA in biochemistry from Mount Holyoke College, magna cum laude and her MD and PhD in biochemistry from the Medical College of Virginia. She did internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals followed by training in Medical Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston. From 1989 to 2007, she served on the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine where she rose to the rank of Professor of Hematology and Oncology and served as co-director of the MD, PhD training program, Associate Director of the Postgraduate Training Program in Hematology and Oncology and Associate Director of the Winship Cancer Institute. From 2007-2010, she served as Deputy National Vice President for Research at the American Cancer Society, providing executive leadership for both intramural and extramural research programs. In 2011, she co-founded Salutramed Group with Dr. Medford. She has served on national and regional boards and is a Past President of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), a federation of 26 professional societies representing over 100,000 scientists throughout the United States that is celebrating its centennial year.
